Bump treatment #1 completed this morning.

April 17, 2024

The last fluridone sample trended up slightly. (While not common, this can sometimes happen with cold water). Thus, it is more likely a bump treatment will occur the week of April 29th after assessing the April 24 results which will be reported on April 26th. However, know that fluridone from the initial treatment continues (slowly) to break apart EWM.

April 1, 2024

We received the first of 8 sampling results earlier today.  The cold water will slow degradation of fluridone concentrations.  Nevertheless, bump treatments are likely.  Concentrations between 2 and 3 ppb will trigger a bump treatment.  Timing decisions for bump treatments is between the contractor, the manufacturer and the DNR.

 Fluridone treatment prep

First treatment. Pictured above is Mike O’Connell standing with Lake Management colleague Jesse and Keegan Lund, previous DNR associate and now SePro rep (fluridone manufacturer), sitting on dock discussing dosage strategy.  Mike and Keegan each created their own independent dosage, then compared notes before arriving at 10.1 gallons for the initial treatment.  6 jets (3 on each side of the bow) with intake at stern for dilution in center tank before jet dispersion.  Mike and Keegan also discussed strategy to accelerate dispersion into fragmented potions of the lake.  They started about 12:00pm and were off the lake by about 3:00pm.  Results of sampling schedule will be posted above. Results will dictate bump treatment timing. Beach and boat launch signage posted to supplement the LOA email notification.

Whole lake fluridone treatment for control of EWM is planned for Thursday March 21st, 2024.

The target dosage of 4 ppb permitted by the DNR has shown success against EWM with minimal disruption to native species. The lake will be sampled repeatedly over the next 100 days for assays at a certified lab. The first sample will occur 7 days post treatment.

There are no use restrictions associated with this fluridone treatment at the permitted level of 4 ppm. Please note that unlike traditional treatment where impact occurs within 10 days of treatment, fluridone (while effective against EWM) is slow acting. Thus, it is possible you will still see patches of EWM for several months.

It is expected that 2-3 bump treatments will be required to sustain 4 ppb over 90 days. We will post updates here and notify you via email if/when bump treatments occurs.

This message also serves in place of the normal physical orange sign posting on your shoreline. (The DNR permit allows for email notification as an alternative to the orange physical signage, except for the public beach and boat launch area that will be posted with physical signage.)
