The Lake Owasso Association (“LOA,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to protecting the privacy of our members and visitors to our website (https://www.lakeowasso.org). This policy outlines how we handle your information with transparency and care.

1. Information We Collect

We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us when you join the association, renew your membership, or contact us. This includes:

  • Contact Information: Name, mailing address, lake property address, email address, and phone number.
  • Association Data: Shoreline footage and property details used for membership records.
  • Opt-In Program Data: Specific authorization and property details provided by members who choose to participate in the aquatic plant management (weed treatment) program.

2. How We Store and Protect Your Data

We take data security seriously:

  • Secure Storage: All member data and association records are stored securely within Google Workspace for Business, utilizing industry-standard encryption and access controls to prevent unauthorized access.
  • Financial Security: We use PayPal exclusively for all online payments and dues. LOA does not see, collect, or store your credit card numbers or bank account information. Your financial transactions are governed by PayPal’s privacy protections.

3. How We Use Your Information

Your information is used solely for the administration of the Lake Owasso Association, including:

  • Managing memberships and processing dues.
  • Communicating important lake updates, meeting notices, and newsletters.
  • Facilitating the optional weed treatment program for participating members.

4. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any outside organizations for marketing or commercial purposes. The only exception to our “no-sharing” policy is for our Opt-In Weed Treatment Program:

  • If you explicitly choose to participate in aquatic plant management, we will share the necessary property and contact information with our designated vendor (e.g., Lake Management Inc.) solely to facilitate the treatment of your shoreline.
  • Data is only shared for members who have specifically signed up and paid for this service.

5. Your Rights and Choices

  • Communication Preferences: You may opt out of receiving our newsletter or non-essential emails at any time by contacting us.
  • Access and Updates: You may request to review or update the personal information we have on file for you by sending an email to our board.

6. External Links

Our website may contain links to external sites, such as the Minnesota DNR or local watershed districts. LOA is not responsible for the privacy practices or content of these third-party websites.
